Family Health History

Although the majority of women who have breast cancer are the first to develop it in their families, a woman’s risk for breast cancer is higher if she has a mother, sister, or daughter (first-degree relative) or multiple family members on either side of the family who have had breast or ovarian cancer.

In this part of the world, there can be a lot of secrecy and stigma around breast cancer diagnosis which is counterproductive.

If there is a history of breast cancer on either side of the family, it must be known and well communicated to family members; so that for example the females can start breast screening earlier and also get genetic testing done.
